Sleep Makes You More Productive

I went to bed after 11:00 pm again last night and my head aches and I’m struggling to keep my eyes open. I want to make cherry jam, write articles, and spend more quality time with my kids, but my body won’t cooperate. So was it worth it to read a novel last night? Of course it was!

My productivity decreased today and it has cost me money. I could’ve made cherry jam, which is more expensive than grape jelly. I could have written more and earned a few extra dollars. I wouldn’t have spent money on painkillers. I could have read my novel during daylight without turning on lights. The list could go on.

I have a poster with the reasons to retire early posted in my kitchen. It reminds me why I need enough sleep. When I do go to bed earlier and sleep enough, I feel happier, am more alert, and have more energy.

  1. I feel happier. A positive attitude goes a long way toward helping you financially. Companies usually hire positive people. If you run your own business, more customers will like you and recommend your product to others. You will enjoy better health and fewer medical bills. And you’re less likely to use expensive addictions to fill any emptiness.
  2. I will be healthier. When I stay up too many nights in a row, I am more susceptible to whatever illness is going around. Almost inevitably, I get a cold or it lasts longer than usual. Sometimes my cold turns into a sinus or ear infection. I have just increased my medical costs. Chronic sleep deprivation can lead to heart problems, diabetes, high blood pressure, and stroke. You can save thousands of dollars when you sleep enough.
  3. I am more alert. How does that save money? You will make fewer dumb mistakes at work and on the road. Mistakes at work can cost you your job or put you and others in danger (depending on the job). While driving, you are less likely to back into another person’s car, get a ticket, or cause an accident.
  4. I spend less on food and I eat healthier. When I sleep enough, I eat healthier foods and prepare meals. When I’m tired and the kids are driving me crazy, I go through the pizza drive-through. Otherwise, I might prepare a healthier pizza. (I use some whole wheat flour, blend vegetables into the sauce, and use more vegetable toppings.)
  5. I have more energy and I accomplish more. We all imagine what it would be like if we had more time in a day. Well, we can make our time more productive. You will be able to accomplish more tasks that will save you money or help you earn money.

Overall, adequate sleep saves us money. We are also more successful in other areas of our lives. We have more energy to put into our relationships and hobbies. So now we can rest easier.
